&#8211; 06\/30\/26<\/h5>\n<p>The Historic Collection of the CRAI Library at Physics and Chemistry organizes an annual exhibition dedicated to a specific topic. This year, it commemorates the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the foundations of quantum mechanics.<\/p>\n<p>In the summer of 1925, Werner Heisenberg proposed the first formulation of quantum theory \u2014 completed in the autumn of the same year by Max Born, Pascual Jordan, and Heisenberg himself, and independently by Paul Dirac \u2014 known as matrix mechanics. Starting in January 1926, Erwin Schr\u00f6dinger established an alternative formulation: wave mechanics.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"detail\">\n<div class=\"row detail-info mb-2 The meeting had a wide participation of specialists from various institutions, including several <strong>members of our Inorganic Chemistry Section of the University of Barcelona (UB).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the event, 5 plenary conferences, 28 oral communications, 27 flash presentations and 20 communications in poster format were presented, giving prominence to doctoral students and new researchers. Among the participants from the UB, presentations on new materials, the design of metal complexes with potential in sustainable chemistry stood out.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the scientific activities, the meeting offered spaces for the exchange of ideas and the generation of future collaborations between research groups.<\/p>\n<p>In the attached photo, most of the meeting attendees and the event organizers, including the members of our Section who have been part of the organization of the event, Dr. Guillem Arom\u00ed and Leon\u00ed A. Marta Estrader and Josep Puigmart\u00ed Luis, researchers from the UB\u2019s Faculty of Chemistry, lead two consortia to promote advances in the remote detection of aquatic pollution and cell alignment in tissue bioprinting, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Ram\u00f3n y Cajal researcher at the Faculty of Chemistry\u00a0<strong>Marta Estrader<\/strong>, a member of the UB\u2019s Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ub.edu\/in2ub\/ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IN2UB<\/a>), coordinates the WATERsense project, funded with three million euros over four years. The aim is to \u201cremotely detect the presence of pollutants in water at any time\u201d, explains Estrader. \u201cTherefore, we will develop magneto-optical nanosensors that will be able to encapsulate certain pollutants (from pesticides to products derived from the chemical and pharmaceutical industry) on the previously functionalized surface. These substances can be identified using vibrational Raman spectroscopy\u201d, she adds.<\/p>\n<p>The innovation of the WATERsense technology lies in the fact that \u201cthrough a small device that will be installed in rivers, lakes or any point of water, it will be possible to quickly detect the presence of contamination, and the results will be sent immediately via the internet, which will reduce the overall cost compared to the methodology used today\u201d, says Estrader.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, WATERsense will make it possible to carry out careful analyses of variations in water quality in relation to changes in socio-economic activity or in the demography of a certain place or region. However, synthesizing high-quality 2D materials at the wafer scale is difficult, and integrating them in silicon microchips brings associated multiple challenges. Nevertheless, in the past few years substantial progress has been achieved and leading companies like TSMC, Intel and Samsung have started to work in this direction too. In this talk I will discuss how to integrate 2D materials in micro\/nano-electronic devices, circuits, and microchips, giving a general overview of the global progress achieved in the field and presenting our last developments in hybrid 2D\/CMOS applications. I will put special emphasis on devices and circuits for memristive technologies, including data storage, computation, encryption, and communication.
